The Old Manse Summer Conversation Series Sponsors a Visit by Ellen Garrison, as Re-enacted by Elon Cook Lee
On July 28th, Elon Cook Lee portrayed Robbins House Civil Rights activist Ellen Garrison, reading and discussing the letters Garrison wrote during her time in 1860s Maryland and Virginia as a Freedmen’s Bureau teacher. It was during this time that Ellen Garrison was the first to test the country’s 1866 Civil Rights Act.
