Many people know Jayne Gordon as the Concord historian, leading tours around town, answering questions and conducting classes that focus on the town’s rich history. But as those who know her would be quick to point out, Concord historian is much too narrow a description for who she is and what she does…

A board member with the Robbins House for five years, Jayne has been involved in a range of historical activities not only in Concord, but throughout the state and New England.
In 2015 she helped coordinate Boston’s ceremony of remembrance at Faneuil Hall to honor the enslaved people who made the Middle Passage voyage to the Americas.

And during the summer of this year she helped put together a teacher workshop at the Moffatt-Ladd House in Portsmouth, N.H., with Robbins House board member Rob Munro. The Moffatt-Ladd House is an historic site in Portsmouth where enslaved people worked during the late 1700s. The workshop focused on having “comfortable conversations about difficult subjects.”

Jane’s specialty for the Robbins House has been in the programming arena, and one of the accomplishments she points to with pride has been working with Robbins House advisor Joe Zellner to create his Peter Robbins character.

She’s happy to see the strides the Robbins House has made over the past few years.

“It’s been exciting to watch the connections that the Robbins House has made with a number of large museums,” she said recently, “and to see the house evolve so that it is not just a point in time but also a connection to current events and the long Civil Rights Movement.”
